Commercial Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement Using Pipe Bursting

A failed clay sewer line caused recurring restroom backups for multiple tenants. Rossman Plumbing replaced the damaged section with HDPE pipe using trenchless pipe bursting.

Commercial Sewer Repair Case Study

Rossman Plumbing was called to a commercial property after multiple tenants, including My Learning Studio, a dance company, and True Bliss Fitness, began experiencing sewer backups in their restroom facilities.

Because the issue was affecting multiple businesses at the property, our team needed to determine whether the problem was isolated to individual plumbing fixtures or connected to the building's main sewer line.

01

The Problem

Multiple tenants at the commercial property were experiencing recurring sewer backups in their restrooms.

Rossman Plumbing performed a sewer camera inspection of the main sewer line to identify the source of the problem. During the inspection, our team discovered that a section of the existing 4-inch clay sewer line had failed.

The damaged sewer pipe needed to be replaced to restore proper drainage and provide a reliable long-term solution for the property.

02

The Solution

Rather than excavating the entire sewer line, Rossman Plumbing used trenchless pipe bursting to replace approximately 20 feet of the failed clay sewer pipe.

Our team first located and verified the existing sewer line alignment. Two access pits, approximately 4 feet by 4 feet, were excavated at the beginning and end of the damaged section.

Using pipe bursting equipment, the failed 4-inch clay sewer line was replaced with new 4-inch HDPE sewer pipe through the existing pipe path. The new pipe was then connected to the existing sewer system at both ends.

This trenchless sewer replacement method allowed us to replace the failed section while limiting the amount of excavation required at the commercial property.

03

The Result

Once the new HDPE sewer line was installed, Rossman Plumbing tested the system to verify proper drainage and flow.

A final sewer camera inspection confirmed that the replacement was successful and no additional issues were found.

The access pits were then backfilled and compacted, and the affected areas were restored to the existing grade.

The commercial property's sewer system was returned to proper operation, resolving the restroom backups affecting the tenants.
